An escalation mechanism is a predefined process for raising issues to higher levels when problems, delays, or performance variances cannot be resolved at the operational level. It includes defined escalation paths, timeframes, roles, communication and decision channels, and required corrective actions to address root causes and ensure service or delivery commitments.
