In contrast to consolidating warehouse logistics, direct transport denotes the uninterrupted movement of a shipment from the point of origin to its destination without transshipment, intermediate storage, or consolidation with other goods. The loading surface or container is fully loaded at the shipper and remains sealed until the final destination – ideal for large volumes, temperature-sensitive, or high-value cargo. Freight forwarders typically charge direct transport either as a flat rate or on a time-and-distance model; it requires strict adherence to statutory driving times and careful route planning. For cross-border direct transport, customs formalities apply to the entire vehicle without intermediate transshipment.
