The primary function of a Delivery Receipt is to provide conclusive proof that a shipment has been handed over to the consignee and accepted in the agreed condition. It typically records the recipient's signature, date, time, and any visible damage noted at the point of handover. Without this document, carriers face a significantly heavier burden of proof in damage or loss claims. In ocean freight, delivery confirmation appears on the bill of lading; in air freight, on the air waybill. Digital Proof of Delivery (POD) is now standard in parcel and express services and is increasingly adopted in general cargo and project logistics as well.
