CTPAT – Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism – is a voluntary supply chain security program administered by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Importers, exporters, freight forwarders, customs brokers, carriers, and other parties in U.S. trade commit to documented security controls: restricted access to cargo and facilities, container and vehicle seal integrity, employee vetting, and cybersecurity measures. In return, certified partners benefit from reduced examination rates and expedited processing at U.S. ports of entry. CTPAT is broadly comparable to Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) programs operated by customs authorities elsewhere, and certification requires periodic revalidation by CBP.
