Definition & Explanation
Charging power indicates how much electrical energy a charging station can transfer to a vehicle per unit of time, usually expressed in kilowatts (kW). It is the key factor determining how long a charging session takes, and is therefore critical for scheduling electric commercial vehicles: a low charging power at an otherwise suitable location can make a charging point unusable for a tight schedule, even if access and opening hours are fine. The charging power actually usable depends on both the charging station and the vehicle's battery system.
