Definition & Explanation
A Certified Cargo Security Program (CCSP) is a voluntary air cargo security scheme administered by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for shippers and freight operators. Instead of submitting shipments to standard airport screening, CCSP-certified participants may screen air cargo at their own TSA-approved facilities. This significantly reduces handling times and delays in air freight operations to and from the United States. Participation requires meeting stringent TSA criteria covering infrastructure, access control, staff training, and documentation. The CCSP is distinct from the Certified Cargo Screening Facility (CCSF) designation, which is a related but separate TSA authorisation category.
