Die Bouvetinsel (ISO-Code: BV) ist ein unbewohntes, norwegisches Außengebiet im Südatlantik, etwa 2’500 km südwestlich von Südafrika gelegen. Politisch gehört die Insel zu Norwegen und unterliegt direkt der Verwaltung durch die norwegische Regierung. Das Klima ist subpolar-ozeanisch mit ganzjährig niedrigen Temperaturen, starkem Wind und häufigen Niederschlägen, wodurch die Insel fast vollständig von Gletschern bedeckt ist. Wirtschaftlich spielt die Bouvetinsel keine nennenswerte Rolle, da keine ansässige Bevölkerung oder Industrie vorhanden ist. Der Aussenhandel entfällt, Importabhängigkeit existiert nur im Rahmen wissenschaftlicher Expeditionen. Aufgrund der extremen Lage und Abgeschiedenheit gibt es keine Transitfunktion. Die Insel verfügt über keine permanente Infrastruktur für Transport oder Logistik. Eine eigene Landeswährung existiert nicht; für administrative Zwecke wird die Norwegische Krone (NOK) verwendet. Die Bouvetinsel dient primär als Forschungs- und Naturschutzgebiet im Südatlantik.
