Uber Freight plans to expand its European business as a Fourth Party Logistics Provider, or 4PL for short. A 4PL provider manages multiple freight carriers, freight forwarders, and transport operators on behalf of a shipper as a superordinate entity. A new control tower with an operations center is planned in Krakow for 2027.
A control tower is not a high-rise building, but rather a central command center. Transportation data, deviations, and customer notifications converge there. Uber Freight also plans to expand its product and development teams and improve its Transport Management System, or TMS, for European shippers.
Krakow complements existing European operations in the Netherlands. Uber Freight names the chemical industry as its first growth area. There, cross-border road transport, rail services, and short sea routes must be coordinated. Chemical manufacturer OXEA has already commissioned Uber Freight to provide a 4PL solution for North America and Europe.
Why Poland? The company provides no detailed explanation for this. The location in Central and Eastern Europe, available skilled workers, and proximity to important road and rail connections are obvious factors. However, this is an assessment, not a confirmed location justification. For customers, what will be crucial is whether central control actually responds faster to disruptions and whether local knowledge is not lost.
