Emirates SkyCargo reports a major milestone in pharmaceutical logistics. Since the launch of its specialized pharma product in 2016, more than one million pharmaceutical shipments have been transported across the network.
According to Emirates, the total weight exceeds 800,000 tonnes.
Today, the airline moves approximately 1.5 to 2 million kilograms of pharmaceutical products per week. In Dubai, more than 16,500 square meters of GDP-certified pharma facilities are available at airports DXB and DWC.
GDP stands for Good Distribution Practice. These are guidelines designed to ensure that pharmaceuticals maintain their quality during storage and transport.
Emirates also operates over 55 so-called Cool Dollies. These are temperature-controlled vehicles or units that protect pharmaceuticals between aircraft and terminal.
For freight forwarders, the hub is attractive because Dubai connects many markets in Asia, Africa, Europe, and America. However, with sensitive pharmaceutical cargo, how the complete supply chain is organized remains critical—not just the main flight.
