01Scope
Inorganic and organic chemicals, pharma, fertilisers, paints, cosmetics, soaps.
Each HS section groups thematically related product families. The precise classification (6-digit HS, 8-digit CN, 10-digit TARIC) determines duty rates, trade measures and often licences.
02Typical regulatory specifics
REACH, CLP, dangerous-goods rules per ADR/IMDG/IATA, often subject to licensing.
Systematically check: are authorisations, origin proofs or additional documents required? Are there trade measures (anti-dumping, safeguard, CBAM)? Which sampling quotas apply?
03Practical notes
Classification follows the General Interpretative Rules (GRI 1–6) of the Combined Nomenclature. When in doubt, request a binding tariff information (BTI in the EU, vZTA in Germany) — binding for three years on customs authorities.
