When a business regularly imports or exports goods and wants to reduce border delays and inspection rates, AEO certification is the standard route. Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) status is granted by the national customs authority of an EU member state to companies that can demonstrate consistent customs compliance, sound accounting practices, and verifiable supply chain security measures. Eligible applicants include importers, exporters, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and other operators established within the EU. Two core certificates are available: AEO-C for customs simplifications and AEO-S for safety and security, with the combined AEO-F covering both. The status is valid across all EU member states and is mutually recognised by a number of third countries through bilateral arrangements.
