Warehouse as a Service (WaaS) is an on-demand warehousing model in which companies rent storage space, handling, and associated logistics functions on a flexible basis, paying only for the capacity and services they actually consume, with no long-term contractual commitment. The operator provides infrastructure, staff, and IT systems; clients occupy dedicated zones within a shared facility or separate areas depending on their requirements. WaaS transfers the pay-as-you-go principle – established in cloud computing – to physical logistics operations. The model is particularly suited to businesses with volatile demand, companies entering new regional markets, or growth-stage operations where committing to fixed warehouse capacity would be too capital-intensive. It differs from a conventional third-party logistics (3PL) contract, which typically stipulates fixed terms and minimum throughput volumes.
