Transferring bulk materials safely, without contamination, and within permissible weight limits is the core challenge of silo truck loading. The vehicle positions itself beneath the loading point of a silo, loading hall, or tank terminal; the pneumatic or mechanical transfer line is connected; and the material – cement, grain, flour, plastic granules, or bulk chemicals – flows into the pressurised tank body under controlled conditions. Throughout the process, the driver monitors fill level and internal pressure to prevent overpressure; line diameter, loading rate, and pressure limits vary considerably depending on the product. Once loading is complete, the silo body is sealed and the vehicle proceeds to a weighbridge to verify that the permissible gross vehicle weight is not exceeded. Specialist training is required for silo truck drivers, since loading errors can cause product contamination, structural damage to the vehicle, or overloading.
