Shipping quality control is the systematic inspection of goods, packaging, labeling, and shipping documents on the shipper's side, carried out immediately before a consignment is handed over to the carrier. The objective is to confirm that both physical condition and documentation comply with agreed quality standards and applicable regulations – covering dangerous goods rules, cold chain requirements, or import conditions at the country of destination. In everyday freight forwarding practice, checks typically include a visual inspection for transport damage, verification that all accompanying documents are complete, and confirmation that package markings, delivery notes, and the consignment note or bill of lading are consistent. Missing or incorrect documents are among the most frequent causes of customs holds and additional costs at destination. Unlike goods receipt inspection – performed by the consignee upon arrival – shipping quality control takes place before cargo leaves the sender's premises.
