Scope of control defines which activities, data, and processes in a supply chain are inspected, monitored, or verified. Freight forwarders and customs authorities use it to establish the boundaries of their control activity: which shipments fall under review, what documentation is required, and who is accountable. A broad scope may cover goods, quantities, and accompanying documents plus supplier data; a narrow scope focuses on samples or specific risk areas. Scope of control differs from depth (intensity) and frequency (how often): scope answers «what», depth answers «how thoroughly», and frequency answers «how often».
