A pickup coordination center is built around two core objectives: consolidating shipments and eliminating unnecessary empty mileage. It centrally manages all collection orders from customers and suppliers, plans vehicle deployment and routes, and merges partial loads into full loads wherever possible. In medium to large freight forwarding companies, the center is typically integrated into the operations or dispatch department, working closely with warehouse and route planning teams. Centralizing these functions measurably improves vehicle utilization and lowers per-shipment transport costs. It should not be confused with a depot or transhipment point—a pickup coordination center is a planning and dispatching unit, not a physical cargo-handling facility.
