As soon as temperature-sensitive goods—vaccines, pharmaceuticals or perishable foodstuffs—leave the production facility, national cold chain quality assurance programs come into effect: they define permissible temperature ranges for transport and storage, mandate monitoring and documentation requirements, and specify corrective actions when deviations occur.
