Unlike a single-system locomotive, a multi-system vehicle can draw power from two or more different electrical supply systems – for instance 15 kV / 16.7 Hz as used in Germany, Switzerland and Austria, 25 kV / 50 Hz, or the direct-current systems of various other countries.
