Material provision is an arrangement in which the client supplies the logistics service provider, freight forwarder, or contract manufacturer with raw materials, semi-finished goods, or components needed to perform the contracted service. Ownership of the material stays with the client throughout; the service provider is granted only a temporary right to use, process, or store it. The model is common in toll manufacturing, client-owned inventory storage, and integrated supply chain contracts where the client retains oversight of quality and material flow. In customs terms, inward processing relief is the most relevant parallel: provisioned materials imported under such a procedure must be accurately declared and either re-exported or accounted for. Forwarders typically track provisioned stock separately to manage liability and avoid duty reassessments.
