At the point of departure – before the truck leaves the yard – cargo securement must be formally verified. Management of cargo securement inspections is the structured process by which transport operators and freight forwarders ensure that lashing equipment, load distribution and restraint devices are checked, documented and corrected before each trip and at defined intervals during transit. Legal responsibility is shared between the shipper, the forwarder and the driver; improperly secured loads can result in regulatory fines, vehicle prohibition orders and civil liability following roadside checks or incidents. The framework draws on recognised technical standards and requires appropriate training for all personnel involved. A consistently maintained inspection regime with traceable records protects every party in the transport chain and demonstrably reduces the incidence of load-related accidents.
