When a vessel enters a port or sails through an Emission Control Area (ECA), the ship must demonstrate compliance with MARPOL Annex VI limits: maximum 0.50 % m/m sulfur globally, 0.10 % m/m in ECAs (Baltic, North Sea, Mediterranean).
