A Letter of Indemnity (LOI) in shipping is a document issued by a shipper or consignee indemnifying the carrier against claims or losses when cargo is released without presentation of original transport documents. It allows the consignee to take delivery of goods when original bills of lading are delayed, missing, or surrendered.
