Just-in-Sequence (JIS) warehousing goes one step further than just-in-time delivery: parts and assemblies reach the production line not only at the right moment but in the exact order dictated by the current assembly sequence. This eliminates sorting and handling at the line itself, directly supporting takt-time discipline. JIS is most prevalent in automotive manufacturing, where models with a high number of variants roll off the line in rapid succession and each vehicle may require a different configuration of seats, panels, or drivetrains. The JIS warehouse handles sequencing, picking, and often pre-kitting so that line operators receive a ready-to-install set in the correct order. Unlike JIT, which focuses on timing, JIS adds the sequencing dimension and therefore demands tighter data integration with the production control system.
