Just-in-Sequence (JIS) logistics extends the just-in-time principle by adding a second dimension: sequence. Parts arrive not merely on time but in the precise order in which they will be installed on the assembly line. The approach is most prevalent in automotive manufacturing, where seats, door panels, and instrument clusters come in dozens of variants and each vehicle on the line may require a different configuration. By delivering components pre-sorted to match the live build schedule, JIS eliminates sorting buffers and reduces floor space at line-side. It requires tight real-time data exchange between OEM and supplier—typically via EDI or integrated production IT—so that any change to the build sequence propagates immediately. Unlike JIT, which addresses timing alone, JIS governs both timing and order of delivery.
