Unlike a simple lookup list, an HS Correlation Table provides a structured mapping between Harmonized System (HS) codes and the codes of alternative classification systems – such as the UN Standard International Trade Classification (SITC) or the Central Product Classification (CPC). Statistical offices, customs authorities, and trade analysts use these tables to align datasets from different systems or to maintain consistent time series when switching between HS editions. The WCO publishes correlation tables with each new HS version – for instance, from HS 2017 to HS 2022 – enabling companies to systematically update their product master data. Without such tables, cross-system and long-term comparisons of international trade statistics would be unreliable.
