High-bay warehouse order management is the software-driven control of picking and storage orders in automated high-bay facilities, where racking structures can reach heights of up to 40 metres. A Warehouse Management System (WMS) receives the customer order, calculates an optimal pick sequence, and dispatches commands to Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (AS/RS) or stacker cranes, which move totes and pallets without manual intervention. Human involvement is typically limited to packing and labelling at the dispatch station; inventory records update in real time. Compared with conventional forklift-based warehouses, capital and maintenance costs are considerably higher, but at sufficient order volumes the investment pays off through low error rates, high throughput, and a compact storage footprint.
