Unlike fumigated wood packaging, the heat-treated pallet meets the phytosanitary requirements of ISPM 15 and is therefore accepted for cross-border shipments in virtually all countries. The treatment requires the wood's core temperature to reach at least 56 °C for a minimum of 30 minutes, effectively eliminating wood-boring insects and their larvae. Compliant pallets are marked with the HT stamp and the IPPC logo, providing customs authorities and receiving countries with immediate proof of conformity. Exporters rely on heat-treated pallets especially for shipments to North America, Australia, and parts of Asia, where restrictions on untreated wood packaging are strictly enforced at the border. Heat treatment is distinct from methyl bromide fumigation, which is being phased out across many markets on environmental grounds.
