Freight forwarders, warehouses, and disposal companies rely on HazMat Handlers whenever dangerous goods must be packaged, loaded, stored, or disposed of in compliance with applicable regulations. A HazMat Handler is a person or organization trained and certified under the relevant regulatory framework – ADR for road, RID for rail, the IMDG Code for sea, or IATA-DGR for air transport. Core duties include the acceptance inspection of incoming dangerous goods consignments, correct packaging and labelling, preparation of mandatory transport documents, and initial emergency response. Certification is time-limited and must be maintained through periodic recurrent training. HazMat Handlers should not be confused with the Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA), who holds a company-level advisory and supervisory mandate and is not necessarily involved in day-to-day operational handling.
