Unlike a fixed loading bridge, a dock leveler dynamically compensates for height differences between the warehouse floor level and the truck bed. Driven by hydraulic or electromechanical actuators, it lowers onto the vehicle's cargo deck as the truck backs into the bay, creating a level transition for forklifts and pallet jacks. This prevents tip-overs, protects cargo integrity, and significantly reduces turnaround times at the dock. Dock levelers are standard equipment in warehouses, production facilities, and distribution centres. Not to be confused with a dock shelter, which seals the gap against weather rather than bridging height differences.
