Delivery is the physical handover of a consignment to the agreed receiving point – a loading dock, goods-in warehouse, distribution centre, or end address. In freight and logistics, it encompasses the transfer of the goods themselves along with the accompanying documents, such as the delivery note or bill of lading, through which the recipient confirms receipt. The time and place of delivery are usually contractually defined; deviations may trigger penalties or disrupt the consignee's operations. In international trade, the point of delivery often determines where risk and cost transfer between seller and buyer, as defined by the applicable Incoterm.
