Customs duty and tax control takes place at the point of clearance, where customs officers verify that declarations submitted for goods entering or leaving the country are accurate and that the correct duties and taxes have been assessed. Depending on the risk profile of the shipment, the control may be limited to a documentary check or extend to a physical inspection of the cargo, either by sampling or in full.
