A company card for the digital tachograph is a smart card that authorises transport operators to download, store and analyse driving data recorded by tachograph units across their fleet. Fleet managers rely on it to verify driver compliance with hours-of-service regulations and to produce evidence during roadside checks or authority audits. Every operator running vehicles fitted with a digital tachograph must hold at least one company card; it is issued by the competent national authority and has a fixed validity period, after which renewal is compulsory. The company card must not be confused with the driver card, which is personal and remains inserted in the tachograph throughout each journey – the company card is used exclusively for back-office data retrieval.
