CPFR (Collaborative Planning, Forecasting and Replenishment) is a standardized business process model in which manufacturers and retail partners jointly manage sales forecasts, inventory plans, and replenishment cycles instead of planning independently. Both parties exchange sales data, stock levels, and promotional plans on a regular basis, enabling the manufacturer to align production and delivery schedules accordingly. The framework is most widely adopted in consumer goods and food supply chains; GS1 recognizes CPFR as a best-practice model for collaborative supply chain management. Its core objective is to dampen the bullwhip effect – the progressive amplification of demand variability that occurs when each supply chain partner plans from incomplete, siloed information. Compared with classic VMI (Vendor Managed Inventory), CPFR goes further by integrating shared forecasting and promotional planning, not just inventory replenishment.
