As a core KPI in logistics controlling, high utilization signals efficient operations—but sustained rates near maximum capacity also raise the risk of bottlenecks and reduced flexibility, while persistently low figures indicate excess fixed costs and underperforming assets. In road freight, utilization typically refers to the ratio of actual payload or floor space used relative to the vehicle's rated capacity.
