Fragile products – glass, ceramics, electronics, and certain foodstuffs – are particularly at risk when packaging is inadequate or when goods are mishandled during loading, transit, or transshipment. Unlike spoilage, which is a gradual qualitative decline driven by environmental factors, breakage results from sudden external force. In cargo claims handling, prompt notification is essential: damage must be noted on the delivery receipt and supported by photographic evidence before the carrier can be released from liability.
