Its purpose is to shield cross-border supply chains from smuggling, counterfeiting, illegal transit, and other security incidents. Logistics operators must factor border-area security requirements into route planning and cargo preparation – especially for controlled, sensitive, or dual-use goods. The distinction from surveillance alone is functional: security management is proactive and preventive, bringing together technology, organizational procedures, and regulatory compliance to stop prohibited activity rather than merely document it.
