Port crane assistance systems are integrated sensor and software solutions that help crane operators position and control container and bulk cranes with precision in real time. Sensors continuously monitor container weight, spreader position, load sway, and obstacles within the working envelope; the control software derives optimized movement paths, actively dampens swing, and triggers automatic warnings or corrective inputs when collision risk is detected. These systems are deployed primarily on ship-to-shore (STS) cranes, rubber-tyred and rail-mounted gantry cranes (RTG/RMG), and automated stacking cranes in container terminals. The tangible benefits include shorter crane cycle times per container move, reduced damage to boxes and quay infrastructure, and lower training requirements for new operators. In fully automated terminals these systems largely take over from the human operator; in semi-automated facilities they serve as a co-pilot.
