A consignment sits at a transfer airport and should move onto the connecting flight without re-screening – that only works if the security status is documented without gaps. The security status is the entry carried in the air waybill and accompanying data stating whether and how a consignment was screened under aviation security rules. The internationally used codes differ by intended use: SPX for passenger, all-cargo and all-mail aircraft, SCO for all-cargo and all-mail aircraft only, and SHR for high-risk consignments. Each status records who issued it, by which method and when. It holds only as long as the secure supply chain is unbroken – a broken seal or unsecured storage voids it and forces re-screening. The status is issued by the regulated agent, or already at origin in the case of a known consignor.
