01Typical goods and risks

Examples: Divided into 4.1 (flammable solids, matches), 4.2 (spontaneously combustible), 4.3 (dangerous when wet).

Risks: Fire and decomposition hazard; 4.3 reacts with water to form flammable gases.

Before every shipment, conduct a risk assessment for the specific packaging, loading and routing combination — especially for tunnels, ferry passages and transit countries with special regimes.

02ADR — road transport

ADR; je nach Untergruppe Feuchtigkeits-Kontrolle erforderlich.

Required: transport document per 5.4.1 ADR, UN packaging codes, hazard labels and orange warning panel on the vehicle. Drivers need the ADR certificate (basic and, if applicable, specialisation courses).

03IMDG — sea freight

IMDG; separate Stauung, "away from acids".

Notes such as "Stow away from living quarters" or the segregation group are defined in IMDG Code Part 7. Mandatory document: Dangerous Goods Declaration. Containers must be CSC-certified and stowed per the CTU Code.

04IATA — air freight

Begrenzt zulässig; 4.3 meist CAO (Cargo Aircraft Only).

IATA DGR is updated annually (currently 66th edition 2025). Operator variations (OV) of individual airlines are binding. Shipper's declaration is mandatory and often available electronically (eDG).
