Weight Load Submission (Verified Gross Mass, VGM) is the process by which the shipper obtains, verifies, and communicates the accurate gross mass of a packed container to the carrier and terminal operator before loading. This requirement is set out in SOLAS Chapter VI, Regulation 2.5 to enhance maritime safety and prevent overloading.
