Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) are a standardized metric to assess the maturity of a technology throughout its lifecycle, from basic research to operational deployment. The scale typically includes nine levels, from TRL 1 (basic principles observed) to TRL 9 (actual system proven in operational environment).
