European Maritime Emission Reduction Projects are EU-initiated programs and measures aimed at lowering greenhouse gas and pollutant emissions from ships operating in European sea regions. They encompass the use of alternative fuels (e.g. LNG, biofuels), technical retrofits (e.g. exhaust gas cleaning systems), operational optimizations (e.g. slow steaming, route planning) and shore-side electricity in ports.
