Since 12 August 2026 the EU Packaging Regulation (PPWR) sets binding limits for food-contact packaging: no more than 25 ppb for any single substance and 250 ppb in total.

PFAS stands for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, a group of highly persistent chemicals used to make paper and board grease- and water-repellent. Since 12 August 2026 the EU Packaging Regulation (PPWR) sets binding limits for food-contact packaging: no more than 25 ppb for any single substance and 250 ppb in total. Pizza boxes, baking paper, fast-food wrappers and coated containers are typical examples. There is no general sell-through period for such packaging; what counts is the moment it is placed on the EU market, which for imported goods is normally release for free circulation by customs.
