Moisture control packaging for sea freight covers specialised solutions designed to prevent condensation and moisture damage inside shipping containers during long ocean voyages. The central risk is so-called container sweat: as ambient temperatures shift between tropical and temperate zones, water vapour condenses on the cool metal walls of the container and drips onto the cargo, causing rust, mould, and packaging degradation. Silica gel and calcium chloride desiccants, barrier films, and hermetically sealed inner packaging are the three primary components of these systems. Exporters of metal goods, electronics, and organic raw materials use them as standard practice; freight forwarders recommend them for all long-haul container shipments. They should not be confused with cold-chain or thermal packaging, which regulate temperature – moisture control addresses condensation, not the temperature of the goods themselves.
