A Container Freight Station (CFS) is a facility where LCL (less-than-container-load) shipments from multiple shippers are consolidated into full containers for export, or incoming full containers are broken down and distributed to individual consignees on import. In integrated operations, cargo receipt, warehousing, customs entry, and final delivery are linked within a single process and IT framework, eliminating handover gaps between steps. For shippers whose volumes fall short of a full container load, the CFS is the most cost-effective entry point into international ocean freight. It differs from a Container Yard (CY), which handles only the positioning and movement of intact full containers without any cargo handling.
