Definition: The term refers to the terminal handling activities and charges at the port terminal related to goods delivered under Free Alongside Ship (FAS). It covers operations performed at the terminal (such as receiving, stacking, loading/unloading within the terminal) up to the point where the goods are placed alongside the vessel. Responsibility for these costs is determined by the sales contract; under FAS, the seller fulfills delivery when the goods are placed alongside the ship, and terminal handling charges are typically borne by the party responsible for costs from that point forward (often the buyer) unless otherwise agreed.
