The Agreement on International Rail Freight Traffic (COTIF) is an international treaty concluded in 1980 (effective since 1985) that establishes uniform legal regulations for the cross-border carriage of goods by rail. It governs contract terms, liability, shipping documents and procedures, and is administered by OTIF (Intergovernmental Organisation for International Carriage by Rail).
