Definition & Explanation
Airport Cargo Build-Up is the operational process that transforms accepted shipments into organized, ready-to-load flight configurations. After acceptance, incoming cargo is systematically sorted by destination airport, airline, and scheduled departure time, then consolidated into Unit Load Devices (pallets or containers) and stacked according to aircraft-loading geometry and weight-balance requirements. Alongside physical consolidation, cargo planners compute weight distribution and prepare detailed stow plans for each flight. The result is a fully staged, flight-ready cargo lineup in the warehouse area, awaiting transfer to aircraft loading bays. Streamlined cargo build-up directly reduces the time from acceptance to actual aircraft departure.
