Environ 7 000 tonnes de moules récoltées par an et du dolomite acheminé par barge résument l'activité de Tarakohe (NZ TKH), dans la baie Golden, au nord de l'île du Sud néo-zélandaise. Géré par le Tasman District Council, le port exportait jusqu'en 1988 le ciment des usines locales ; aujourd'hui, pêche, aquaculture et plaisance dominent. Il n'est pas équipé pour les conteneurs ni le fret de ligne, et les profondeurs restent faibles (quai de chargement d'environ 6,4 m). Pour du fret commercial dans la région de Nelson-Tasman, les chargeurs utilisent le port de Nelson, bien plus important. Tarakohe demeure un port spécialisé de pêche et d'aquaculture, à la pertinence cargo générale limitée.
