Quelque 22 mètres de profondeur d'accès, quatre appontements pétroliers et des réservoirs de stockage de brut : Sullom Voe, à la pointe nord des Shetland, compte parmi les plus grands terminaux pétroliers d'Europe. Le site reçoit par pipeline le pétrole brut et le gaz des champs du bassin est-Shetland et des eaux profondes à l'ouest de l'archipel, puis les stabilise, les stocke et les charge sur des pétroliers à destination des raffineries du monde entier. Exploité par EnQuest, il a mis en service une nouvelle unité de stabilisation et d'export de gaz début 2025. Il ne s'agit ni d'un port à conteneurs ni d'un terminal de marchandises diverses : le tirant d'eau profond sert avant tout aux grands pétroliers chargés. Pour le fret conteneurisé ou conventionnel aux Shetland, c'est le port commercial de Lerwick qu'il faut viser.
